i have an 80gb ipod classic, when i eject it from my computer it says "ok to disconnect" ... and then a meter goes across the screen and it goes into the normal (usable) screen.

so is it ok to disconnect when it says "ok to disconnect"

or do i have to wait for the meter thing to fill?

this isnt even a big issue its just sort of a pet peeve that i have, for the record i usually just wait the 5 seconds for the meter to fill. its just weird that it tells me its ok before the meter starts.

I think this makes us web programmers rather than designers.

No. It's fairly common sense stuff really to stick code in like class="title" instead of class="blue" to infer structure in a document, not the design.

Then please go visit www.csszengarden.com and see how user-applied changes break their designs to the point where elements are covered by others. Those designs usually apply to the W3 standards, and I bet they are far better at this things than either you or me.

Whilst I think csszengarden has some pretty designs, there's more to design than just how something looks. If their designs break because of users resizing the page, then their design is broken. That doesn't take away from the artwork, which is often excellent.

csszengarden is also just ONE underlying document structure and not a terribly practical one either. It's there to showcase what can be done just with CSS, not how to design a practical semantically led page.

    (getting on soapbox)

In my opinion, it all comes down to this: we need to drastically overhaul taxation on the national and state level to make it very easy to comply with and also have minimum burden on residents and businesses.

This is why I am a fan of the Steve Forbes flat income tax plan, which works this way:

    1) A generous income exemption per household for the personal income tax, up to US$42,000 for a family of four.
    2) 17% flat-rate income tax with NO other deductions for income above that exemption I described.
    3) Corporate income tax rate is now fixed at 17% also with very few other deductions available, perhaps only a simple depreciation schedule for plant and equipment.
    4) No more taxation on bank account interest, capital gains and stock dividend payments.

By eliminating most of those undecipherable mountain of exemptions, credits and deductions, income tax compliance costs drop drastically. Indeed, for the personal income tax the tax form will be simpler than the 1040-EZ form, possibly reduced to not much more than a postcard! :D Even corporate income tax filings will require far less paperwork because corporations no longer need to deal with that mountain of rules from now on.

#4 I mentioned above is very important, since it will allow Americans to keep their savings and investments in the USA essentially tax-free. This has another advantage: American residents can now create their own retirement "nest eggs" and/or put money away to pay for future medical bills with no income tax implications, which would end up reducing the need for Social Security and Medicare.

In short, it is WAY past due for a massive overhaul of our income tax system. Put the Forbes tax plan into place as early as the 2011 tax year and all those TRILLIONS in American-owned liquid assets either participating in the cash-only underground economy or sitting in various financial institutions beyond US borders (care to explain all those "banks" in various Caribbean island nations?) as a means of income tax avoidance return to the USA to make full banks, businesses and even government again and also gives all the financial incentive for American businesses to keep as many jobs, factories and even corporate headquarters in the USA, which would go a long way in lowering the unemployment rate.

Probably cause they want to shakedown all the non-unlimited messenger customers with a new tiered messaging structure.

Perhaps, this new feature isn't a bad deal with A-List, etc.

Now if I had only more than 1.5 bars and an iPhone that didn't go toaster hot (not cylon) :D when I try to use it on the first floor of my home.

So when do you think the LTE Microcell(s) will arrive? [off topic]

It would be for me cause I have my google voice number on my a list.

I then have the GV app.

With the GV app I get unltd outbound and inbound calling to any number landline or mobile.

I no longer use my AT&T number but my GV number.

You know, there is a quite horrific problem here. Now that e is a mod, he can't hijack threads, and do drive-by macro postings!

We can't have fun anymore! Didn't you just love hijacking threads, and turning them into competitions of who can put e and K into a funny pic in e's backyard?

They days of old are gone. e is still here, but his old personality is gone. No murdured. Murdured by his moderatorship. It just won't be the same anymore.

The golden days of macrumors are over. But soon... a new idol will rise up, and the people in the fields will know that this is there time. We will throw off the shackles, and bring those who were once one of us, and turned away, back to our side! WE WILL BRING EM BACK ALIVE!

    Or maybe not, who knows?

In hindsight, I think I may have been high on Vegemite when I posted this. On that note, I'm gonna go eat some Vegemite.

They don't compete with publishers, and the "tablet market" is not probably too narrow a definition of a "market" (more likely, anti-trust authorities would be interested in the overall "pc" market or the "mobile" market.)
You mean as narrow ad the desktop browser market? Which got Microsoft into trouble (until politics turned business-friendly).

Really stop lying to yourself. Android is a powerful mobile OS that can be adapted to many situations. Its not going anywhere for a while. Kindle will not outsell it as kindles direct competition the Nook (an android device). Android will save people money in the future. Why right your own set of code for a cash register when you just build it on top of android.

It will be a shocker for you when it happens.

    What is Einstein@Home?

The screensavers are being developed for Linux, Windows and Mac operating systems.

Albert Einstein discovered long ago that we are adrift in a universe filled with waves from space. Colliding black holes, collapsing stars, and spinning pulsars create ripples in the fabric of space and time that subtly distort the world around us. These gravitational waves have eluded scientists for nearly a century. Exciting new experiments will let them catch the waves in action and open a whole new window on the universe - but they need your help to do it!

Einstein@Home is a project developed to search data from the Laser Interferometer Gravitational wave Observatory (LIGO) in the US and from the GEO 600 gravitational wave observatory in Germany for signals coming from rapidly rotating neutron stars, known as pulsars. Scientists believe that some pulsars may not be perfectly spherical, and if so, they should emit characteristic gravitational waves, which LIGO and GEO 600 will begin to detect in coming months.

    http://www.physics2005.org/

Gravitational waves are ripples in the fabric of space and time produced by events in our galaxy and throughout universe, such as black hole collisions, shockwaves from the cores of exploding supernovas, and rotating pulsars. These ripples in the space-time fabric travel toward Earth, bringing with them information about their origins, as well as invaluable clues to the nature of gravity.

Albert Einstein predicted the existence of gravitational waves in his general theory of relativity, but only now in the 21st Century has technology advanced enough for scientists to detect and study them. Although gravitational waves have not yet been detected directly, their influence on a binary pulsar (two neutron stars orbiting each other) has been measured accurately, and was found to be in good agreement with original predictions. Joseph Taylor and Russell Hulse shared the 1993 Nobel Prize in Physics for their studies in this field.
