Very good point on the friend of marriage thing. Britney Spears is pretty clearly a very big friend of marriage.

I am thinking of buying a 1Tb iMac 2011 i7. I don't want to waste money on the 2Tb one.
However, I may need more space in the future, I was seeing this hard-drive dock thing when I was browsing newegg, I never use one before, which one works best with iMac? Is there a thunderbolt one? Thanks.:)

You'll have to replace the motherboard, unfortunately.

Get a gigabit switch. They're cheap. As well, many/most currently sold WiFi routers and cable modems/DSL routers have a built-in gigabyte switch.
To use the WiFi printer, the device that is printing does NOT have to connect to the WiFi router via WiFi. It can connect hard-wired. That means if the WiFi router has a gigabyte switch, the connection to other hard-wired devices will be gigabyte (assuming gigabyte capability in the other device.) So the WiFi speed is not an issue, except when printing. And the WiFi speed will be more than sufficient for printing. You'll also be able to print from both machines.

If you don't know what it is, don't delete it.
Yes, I know that. That is why I am asking on here if any one knows what they are and if they are safe to delete....

Basically you can't do this in one line.
Ah, that is unfortunate... Ah well, so be it.
Thanks for the replies, robbieduncan and jiminaus.

That my 2008 iMac is one of the affected ones of the infamous 8800 GS card failures.
After gaming today, the computer completely locked up. Tried several reboots, but the computer just freezes and the screen flickers a little. The odd thing is though, that the mouse pointer still works.
I'm almost certain this is a gfx card issue because these model iMac's have been known to fail. The HDD was just replaced this year, so it can't be that.
The GPU temperature is around 150F...
Anyway, what do you think Apple will tell me? I bought this computer on December 25, 2009 so I still have one year and a half left on Applecare.

Why not just leave them, since they're not hurting anything by being there. I'm sure if you did enough research, you could find the purpose for each file, but why waste the time?

Is it really that big? It measures about 1.8" by 1.8", and the package includes both GPU and 128 MB RAM. I forget how big 9700 was, but X1600 should be smaller.
If it is only 1.8" x 1.8" then Apple will probably try to use it. Many people are angry with Apple for not using the Radeon 9800 in the Powerbooks, but those chips are huge (almost PCI card sized!) and hot. We'll have to see how cool running this chip is, since NVIDIA already has some pretty aggressive mobile offerings (NOT the 5200).
Edit: I just noticed AnandTech has a preview of the chip, I'll check it out and let you guys know what the possibilities of this finding its way into a Powerbook are...

I bought an ATI cooler for my 7800GT. NV silencer 5 rev. 3.
Here's my thread on it. http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=966462
This would be my recommendation to the OP. The 7800GT is a decent card and you've already got it, but the stock cooler could be a lot better.

generally it's quite useful.
That's fair enough, but I honestly didn't find any significant utility in it all. Is there a benefit to having fonts activated and deactivated on the fly?
I'm not being snotty -- I'm genuinely curious!
Cheers

Okay being serious for a minute. I am a dad and I wouldn't like to think that my son was being encouraged to go meet a stranger. So if mom or dad says no then they are only thinking of your safety.
Please don't arrange to meet someone off the internet. Many MacRumors people will be there and if you AND your mom or dad is with you we can say hi.

Keynote @ Hour 2: Michael Jordan walks on stage spinning the MacBook Air on his finger...
Jordan makes more sense, but maybe the Globetrotters will help make up the entourage.
I think the name is dumb. I don't think they would link the product name to an easy to see banner. Obviously, the banner was meant to build hype or they would have just kept it covered.
They'll almost certainly do something cool with a wireless device, but I'm *certain* they won't name a machine Macbook Air. It doesn't even make any sense really.

Hi sebisworld, as jsw said above I strongly suggest that you back up your user directory before playing with FileVault anymore than you have to. I lost my entire User directory due to an error in the 'optimization' process that corrupted the FileVault image, making the entire directory unreadable.
It's strange that the FileVault image takes up so much room, but you can try to move the large files onto a disk image (outside your user directory) that will store the files you want protected, then keep trying to turn FileVault off and see what happens.
Good Luck
(BTW I don't like FileVault either... it's a good concept, but not good for regular users who don't back up on a daliy basis.)

FW400 doesn't carry any power so no it's not going to work.
Of course it does. That's why the ports can blow so that the FW800 connector was improved.
I am not using one of those awful mini FW ports.

ok - I went thru and approved a whole slew of songs that were marked as duplicates (same album) and so they should be in the system. When I get more time this weekend, I'll run thru and make sure I didn't miss any.
Sorry about that - time kinda got away from me :)

Thank you for the totally useless comment. If you had bothered reading my post, you might have noticed that I said that I was having the same problem when the device was NOT jailbroken. However, one cannot expect people like you to be able to read.
