That article is very good but it's directed mostly to manufacturers and industry standard setters rather than end-users.
Unfortunately, it's a bit tricky. After TRIM Enabler came out about a month ago I did a secure erase. Nonetheless, the other day I ran Stellar Mac Data Recovery to undelete a file and it found a LOT of old files (almost a GB worth) that I think pre-date the secure erase. I might try a more "scientific" test when I have more time.
I plan to pass the MacBook Air down within the family when I get a new one, but I agree manufacturers need to get on the ball.
Very good to know, I hope this will be corrected with future OS and SSD upgrades. Thanks, KPom.

however, I was angered at the fact that I brought my apple in-ear headphones in to get replaced because they stopped working after day 4 of having them (I didn't damage them) and they said, "we don't care about that right now...you'll have to come back after tomorrow." I understand that they are busy, but A) they sold me a faulty product that I want replaced B) I'm a valuable customer C) It's a huge inconvenience for me to return to Easton to take care of it.
:apple:
I understand your pain... but they aren't open to take returns. Remember that they are open early specifically for the iPhone launch. Had they told you the same thing during normal business hours I would understand your anger, but you have to admit that they somewhat did the right thing... Maybe could have handled it a bit different.
They are there at that time specifically for the iPhone release... dealing with other issues takes away from the entire reason they are even open and delays others from receiving their phone.
If I were you I would go back this afternoon during normal business hours... if they still refuse then you have every right to be angry.

I wish I could get a free iMac! Even the first generations still pop up on craigslist and sell for $50 here. Haha, also makes me feel old... I remember in Elementary School when they introduced those machines and we got a lab of them to replace PowerMac 5200s... ahh how time changes.

hi,
I'm having trouble with vertical distance in GoLive.
eg: my home page.
I want to have a certain distance between various headings and sections of www.eclispenow.org but really can't seem to get the "box" tool working properly. Any ideas for guaranteeing vertical distance... without getting into html? (Html scares me at this stage.):eek:

yeah something doesn't sound right here. can you tell us exactly what flags you used when starting folding?
are you using the console client?Sure, I'm running a shortcut of the SMP version:

The Macbook Air Model A1304 does not use the more common ZIF-40 connector which provides ATA-100 connections and resulting 120GB limit. Instead it uses the ZIF-24 connector which provides a faster SATA connection and does not have the 120GB cap.
The only adapter I could find that appears to be compatible is this ZIF to SATA (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002EOSTXU) adapter. If it works I'll let those interested know. If it does not work I will at least make sure the connector is the same. As I have no way of knowing whether or not the drive is faulty.
Note: The original Macbook Air A1237 uses the common ZIF-40 connector.

actually, if there were some layers (i.e. mixing some of the existing tracks) to get some more depth, it could be quite nice.
good idea. maybe ill pull them into Garage Band like everyone did with the Howard Dean Scream. (http://www.methodshop.com/fun/politics/dean/index.stm) ;)
i put 3 of those dot matrix songs on my ipod. after 3 secs i skip them. they just needs more.

Hi guys,
I have 2 old(ish) 24" Cinema Displays (the matte ones). Is it possible to use both of them with my (current) Mac Mini? I'm assuming I need some sort of HDMI splitter type of thing..
Thanks for your help.

Hey what's up,
Sorry haven't had much time, started coding last night again.
Yes I think I have the total solution.
The first part, the masking, I've managed to recreate with a 'RenderMask' (CCRenderTexture). An example can be found here:
http://www.cocos2d-iphone.org/forum/topic/8474
This works nicely. I'm keeping track of a "blastSprite" array wich I blend with the barrierSprite on the RenderLayer.
For the second part (the pixel detection -> transparent/color), I'm going to use a hack on CCTexture2d: CCTexture2dMutable. This is a extended class with a very fast 'pixelAt' function. Haven't had the time to test it, hopefully tomorrow.
Download incl. sample can be found here:
https://github.com/manucorporat/AWTextureFilter
Thanks for the effort guys. I'll show you a movie if I've got it all working :)

You ARE getting some swap and page outs though, which will slow things down. It's not an issue right now, but if those numbers start getting too large it means you're writing too much to the drive (and reading) and that WILL slow your ass way down.
Might I ask what you were using? 6GB should be plenty of RAM.

The resolution is set at what the monitors are. I am not sure what you mean by setting it to "the same as the computer"....?
This issue happens regardless of what programs are running. The program you see on the screenshot is Safari, with www.purple.us (the site has an embedded video). But this problem happens when Safari isn't running at all. In fact, it happens when I have quit out of all running apps (aside from Finder, obviously)
I would love it if the cause could be discovered before I do a reinstall.

It probably didn't sell well--first it was bundled with Final Cut Pro, and then GarageBand was based on it.
I'm sure a future GarageBand 2 could fill Soundtrack's shoes, or they could just leave it as a component of Final Cut Pro. GB generally does MORE than soundtrack (software loops, etc.) But at present, Soundtrack DOES still have important features. Features for making... soundtracks :) Unlike GB, Soundtrack has a video track, complete with marker support, for composing music to fit the footage or animation.
Soundtrack is probably my favorite Apple app ever--although I could switch to GB just fine I'm sure.
Also, Soundtrack comes with many more loops than GB--and they're not software loops, they're all real recordings. A great collection. Do the GB Jam Packs include all of them? I've always assumed there was SOME overlap at least.
(And vice versa... if I have Soundtrack, how much would I gain by getting the Jam Packs? After all, the Soundtrack loops I already have should work fine in GarageBand--so I already have a Jam Pack of sorts.) Do they still sell it with the bundled Final Cut Pack? that "in my opinion" is the 4 best apps. Final Cut Pro HD, Soundtrack, Livetype (amazing program) and Compressor.

One point to note is that as far as I'm aware the 'Apple' versions of the 5770 or 5870 do not have the crossfire option.
So unless both the 5770 cards are 'Windows' versions of the cards the 2nd 5770 will just be sitting there not doing anything with no monitor plugged in.
My setup if 2x5770 (normal Apple versions (Apple gave me one for free!)) but I have multiple monitors splitting the load between them.
Bottom line is get the 5870 if you need the card now but as Cindori says wait for Lion as there looks to be native support for something like the 6870.

Undoubtedly 10, it's the best desktop on Earth today.
And despite all this BS that Winblows fanboys love to spread around here, I am yet to see a PC beating my 2008 iMac in terms of overall performance, UI responsiveness and REAL multitasking capabilities (not the crap that Windows represents).
NONE of my friends and relatives (all of them NORMAL users) has a better-performing machine - so please be careful when reading posts from hobbyists about "building your machine" and the like. No ordinary customer does that or wants to do that.
- The iMac has the BEST screen in the industry;
- The BEST OS in the industry, with the option to run inferior Windows if you want to suffer;
- The BEST AIO design, and none of the bulkiness common to the ugly Windows world;
- The BEST keyboard;
- The BEST standard, multitouch mouse (magic mouse) - just genius;
- Even for an older machine like mine, EXCELLENT overall performance;
- Multitasking responsiveness that is miles ahead of Windows machines (remembering my pathetic PC at work);
- Almost totally silent;
- The best customer service in the world.
Windows PCs nowadays are just for three types of people:
1 - Hardcore gamers who love to brag about irrelevant specs or one extra FPS;
2 - People like the above who need to change their GPU every month or like to tinker with their boxes;
3 - Masochists.
Just buy your iMac and be happy - you're not gonna regret it.
