Reading through this thread, I was wondering how many people defending the iPad are actually aware of its inherent shortcomings for professional users , and have actually used programs like Photoshop .
The iPad was never meant to be used by professionals, it is not compatible with pro apps and devices on a basic level, like colour spaces, connectivity, file import/export, tethering, to name a few .
As it's been pointed out before, finger gestures are a crutch, not an enhancement, just like they were since the introduction of trackpads .
SJ called the iPad a post-PC computer - nothing could be further from the truth.
It might help to develop better input devices in the future, but right now Apple doesn't seem to be part of it, aiming their products at a retro oriented crowd which is merely asking for simplification, instead of progress.

u don't need .Mac to use iChat. you can use iChat with AIM account. and I keep hearing this rumor that MSN and Yahoo account might be added.
so sign up for a jabber account, and then use Transports to connect to MSN, Yahoo, AIM, ICQ, etc etc.
A lot of other services offer "simmilar" features, but none that i have seen/used/heard of offer the same integration that .Mac does.

Yeah...but doesn't Retrospect (http://www.dantz.com/en/products/mac_desktop/index.dtml) do the same thing but better? For $100, you'd expect so. This is a thread about free tools and SilverKeeper is one of them.

So posting faults makes one a troll?
Nice place, this (was better and less abusive before Apple released the iDevices). :(

Well I was going to get a PB but I just can't see a justification for the price on the 15" 1ghz even if I would prefer portability so I've decided to get a G4 PM. My question is if panther will take advantage of a second cpu, otherwise I'll just get a SP.

this app would be amazing if it got camera raw and it's a killer for photographers.

Here is a simple question. What type of business are you?
If you're an accountant firm, using SAGE - then Windows is the best solution for your business. If you're a graphic design firm, Mac would be the best choice for your business - but windows would also work in the design sector.
The question of "what is better than what" is irrelevant, its more about "what do you need out of your IT?"
You also have to consider your training needs, if you suddenly shift everyone from PC to Mac or Visa Versa.
You also have to consider who provides your IT Support? Do you have internal IT staff? Do you outsource?
You may one to get in a Neutral PC and Mac consultant (who is not going to try sell you things you dont need) to come in do a proper survey.
Hope this helps! :)

I still need to call LAN lines for work and A-list for FamilyTalk is now available on the Nation 700 plan. I switched today by calling ATT but online they are not letting it go through yet. They said this will work online soon, but calling 611 they are setting it up today for me. Went from $89.99 to $69.99, saving $20 per month and keeping my A-list!
One disadvantage I think is if you are not on the 89.99 plan the primary line isn't eligible for yearly upgrade?

Castle on a cloud seems the likely origin
There's also the "my home (folder) is my Castle" angle, though. :)
I for one would like a constantly backed-up and synced home folder.

Sorry if this posted in the wrong forum, I'm not sure where to post it.
Starting today I'm getting an annoying popup only on Macrumors
It's kinda purpleish, doesn't make sense, say's "collective media" on the first line. No Idea what it is but I don't like it.
If this stays, I will frequent Macrumors far less.
How do I stop it?
Actually it is not just on Macrumors , also happening on CNN.com

What's up guys? Now that Christmas is finally over until next year. Please show us some photos of what you've got for Christmas. Instead of asking Santa for Apple products this Christmas, this is what I've got. Pretty cool.......:)

Is he the reason OS X has such bad opengl support?
I guess OSX just wasn't meant for gaming/serious 3D graphics work.
It's amazing that Core Audio/Core Midi is better than anything on Windows. But they can't do a great graphics API like Direct X or better Open GL implementation.

Like most of you, my knowledge of Notes is about 10 years out of date, so I had a look at the wikithing
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lotus_Notes
Hmm, interesting read. Seems lots of updates recently. Gone from 43 million to 120 million users in the last few years. Quite impressive database based multi-channel document handling and communication app. Useful replication of databases so that work can be done offline, and updated when next online.
Lots of gotchas tho, see the criticisms in the article. Notable that they only implemented a number-of-unread-emails count in the 2003 edition.
