What I find to damn stupid is that all competitors except Apple use Android or Honeycomb. WTF!
They are comparing ipad to other tablets essentially running the same effing OS.
Maybe because that's the only competitor there is right now? No WebOS tablet released. No BlackBerryOS tablet released. I guess technically they could've put some Windows 7 devices on there, but that would've been embarrassing ;)

Are people overestimating Apple's motives? Could it perhaps not be a masterplan but just that the new motherboard, etc they are using just happens to have this component so it's been included? That could explain why it's hidden around the back. If being placed on the back is deliberate it could just be for aesthetics sake as ports on the front will look messy.
Entirely possible. If you look at this picture of the new Mini's logic board (http://s1.guide-images.ifixit.net/igi/eBGMrGURJuJjcmlh.huge) from iFixIt's teardown, it looks like the logic board is just wide enough at the front (right side of the board) of the housing to have accommodated the SD card slot. But it looks like it would have been at the expense of either growing the housing so an inserted card sat flush with it, or having the card stick out significantly (and asymmetrically) from the rounded corner.
I really don't get why people who come up with specs don't think ahead. When SD came out it has a 2GB limit. So they updated it, SDHC for a 32GB limit. Now they had to update it again, SDXC for a 2TB limit. They should have just designed the format to scale in the FIRST place.
For example: CompactFlash came out in like 1994 and has scaled all the way up to like 137GB, when the first cards were under 1MB.
Fair point. It could have been a cost-driven design decision to keep the cost of the driver silicon down, similar to those that drove the design of the original USB 1.0 specification.
With regard to booting:
I think a lot of people in here are also looking over the fact that the card reader is on the USB bus. Meaning the speeds you'd be limited to would be that of USB 2.0. Internal 5400rpm boot drive would still be faster.
The card reader doesn't show up on the Mini's USB device tree in System Profiler, hence is not a USB device. The USB device tree lists every device that is currently enumerated on the bus.
I believe its part of the ethernet controller chip.
Correct. Looking at the BCM57765 block diagram, the SD card data is accessed via the PCI Express bus. The SMBus is several orders of magnitude too slow to handle 2.5GT/s, and is likely used for controlling the driver IC.

Keynote is actually pretty good!
Dont be a uninformed fanboy. k? Thanks
I think any posts with "fanboy" should be deleted. Just because someone likes a product and prefers it over another doesn't mean they are a fanboy.
I personally hate MS Office, but thats because I fix it for a living.

Somehow I was expecting to see a lot more praise and excitement for the 3DS after it launched....
The 3D effect seems to trigger mixed reactions. Other than that...there really doesn't seem to be anything truly exciting about it? I don't see any "wow, those graphics!!" or "holy cow, this thing is fast/powerful" type comments.
The general vibe I am getting from here and other places is more like "pretty neat", rather than "wow, so awesome".
Because that's exactly the response.
The 3DS graphics are roughly the same as PSP, so nothing new (and in fact, so 2005) and hence nothing to jump up and down about. Sure, it's better than the DS...
The 3D is mixed reactions because it's...meh. The consensus is that it's cool for a while, after which your eyes hurt, or the battery dies, or you get fed up with losing the sweet spot all the time. It's got the wow factor of being a new technology, but no real lasting appeal.
I had a 3DS for three days, sent it back. Totally underwhelmed.

I'm not a photographer, so I don't understand the significance of this update, but I was surprised to see all of these integration improvements. Is integrating with Flickr or your iPod or keynote that useful to a pro? I'd have though these were things more of interest to an average Mac user trying to show off his vacation/baby photos.
Are you pros interested in these things? Or maybe Apple is trying to get the serious amateur interested in Aperture?

hehe With 11 billion cash in the bank (half of Adobe's market cap), it would be really sweet if Apple acquired Adobe!
Drop all Adobe apps for Windows. Force people to either convert to Mac or find an alternative.
Ah it's just an awful, evil dream.
Please come true :)

I work for a large telecom company and was installing home internet service for a customer that had an iPhone. When I asked if he wanted me to set up his wifi for him he said sure. When I looked at it the top right hand corner said T-mobile. I looked at the phone and said to myself T-Mobile? Then just carried on. So now looking at this article makes me think that they are actually testing it on their network. I don't know what to think of it actually.
Carrier logos on the iPhone are in the top left corner. As a forum newbie I will tell you folks around here are sticklers for having your facts straight. You didn't see anything special ... Just an unlocked iPhone on T-mobile just like the one I have had since 2007!
It's called unlocking. He'll have an unlocked iPhone (by whatever means) and stuck a T-Mobile sim in it. Doubt he'll have any data plans for it, just a cheap contract (or PAYG) and use WiFi when needed.

IMO the older silver MBP's are nicer looking than the current unibody design.
If the old design had the same thickness as the new ones and the same unibody structure, I'd be all over it!

He's just speaking truth to power. It's a violent outburst caused by the man's oppression by the white majority. It's unfortunate that a woman was beat up, but we must consider the root cause - whites.
Seriously, I had to write papers on this crap. It's pretty awesome. I took it as a lesson on how you can win any argument by changing the rules.
Hahahahaha, omg, this is hysterical that you actually believe this! Racism is anything but colorblindness. Period. It doesn't matter if you're "oppressed" or the "minority". And to say that it's whites fault that a seriously misled person beat up a woman... ? HA, take a step back, pull whatever it is out of your butt, re-read your diploma, and rethink everything you think if you still agree with yourself when you posted this.
And WOW you "wrote papers"?! wait a second while I bow to me knees
Hopefully your reply was actually deeply rooted in sarcasm and I just didn't pick up on it

It has the underpinnings of a great program. The UI is a little unfriendly and could be more intuitive. Hopefully it progresses faster than .Mac has in improving.

Ummm...no.
Consumer Reports was clearly pageview trolling with the iPhone 4.
They rated it as their BEST smartphone, but said they wouldn't recommend it.
How does that make any sense?
It makes perfect sense when you understand that "recommend" is a special term when it comes to Consumer Reports. They weren't telling people not to buy it. They just weren't giving it their highest "recommended" seal of approval.

I would like to know if all these people swarming to buy the RAtM track actually care about Christmas number 1's. I wonder if anyone does?
Of course they don't. Most of them probably just want to be involved in the commotion, so they can put their hand up and say "yeah, I downloaded that track, suck it Cowell!"

I'm sorry, my goal wasn't to keep people out of the topic, but to make it easier to talk about the two separate topics. Why can't you post over there?

According to the sidebar, my 1.6GHz G5 with NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra now makes the cut to run Aperture. Didn't think either of those met the minimum requirements with 1.1.

Will all the resellers buying all the AT&T versions I call BS on those stats.
Go to a store and I guarantee you can't buy an at&t model, but vzw are in stock everywhere.
There is NO way Vzw is outselling AT&T version, NO way, it's impossible.
My guess is maybe people in the mid-west would PREFER vzw, but they'll never buy one anyway...
Does not say anything about what is SELLING right now - this is a survey about intentions to buy.

I'm holding off on the ipad. I really like it and I'm not waiting for some future specs. I just am not sure I have enough need for it to spend that kind of cash. I have a three year old laptop and I think I'd rather save a little more money and get a new laptop than add an ipad to my collection. And I think the needs of an ipad are not that great for me right now.
I think if I were to buy one it would be as a gift for my parents. You know these are ideal for people in the family who do not really need a full computer but you'd like to have the ability to interact with on-line. You can set it up with your own computer and occasionally update it for them. It looks to be a lot less of a headache to manage for someone who is not tech savvy than a full computer.
Ditto on all counts, especially if the 3yo laptop is a MBP.

...if you're selling soap.
You are wrong.
Proven by Apples rising market share.;)
You cant keep saying that these ads are hurting apple if they keep selling more and more computers.
It makes no sense.
I dont find the Apple guy smug at all. I find him very confident and sure of himself.

The black 3ds officially beat the iPhone in sexiness
You're joking right? April fools? The 3DS is the ugliest thing to come out of Nintendo manufacturing in a long long while. The DSi was a nice looking handheld, as well as feeling good as far as ergonomics go. The 3DS is a glossy nightmare and should be used as a showcase of what not to do when it comes to industrial design.

Your iPhone maintains a maximum of 1 active connection to receive push notifications.
The amount you receive and number of applications that send them to you have very little effect - other than to keep turning your screen on.
